We’re delighted to introduce Phil Smallwood, who joined the Rennicks team just over a month ago. Since he started, he has already implemented some significant changes and made strides forward in his role as Printer Maintenance Engineer.

Phil’s role is incredibly important as it ensures our printing operations run smoothly at all times. These complex procedures involve intricate hardware and software systems – the person responsible for their running and maintenance must have a detailed knowledge of how they work and how they can be optimised to enhance performance continually, as well as maintaining the ability to develop new products moving forward.

Phil’s extensive experience as a technical support engineer was especially attractive to us, having over 12 years’ experience in the highly complex electronics manufacturing industry. His problem-solving abilities and adaptivity were second to none, as were his impeccable customer service skills and ability to interact with colleagues enhancing productivity and confidence, clearly demonstrated through a further 10 years in customer-facing roles.

Celebrating Phil’s appointment, Mike Wallace, Commercial Operations Manager explains: “We’re delighted to welcome Phil to the Rennicks UK team. His wealth of experience and knowledge in the printing industry made him the stand-out candidate for the role, and we’re confident he’ll be a real asset to the team.”

A creative role with scope for experimentation

Phil’s motivation for joining Rennicks was a desire to expand his current role and experience into a forward-flowing business known for industry firsts. In particular, he was attracted to the opportunity for creativity and progression the role would bring.

“Although I enjoy fixing machines and helping customers with issues or improving their operation workflow, it could sometimes feel like a fire fighting type job, with no end goals or sense of completeness. I liked the idea of being more involved in the experimentation and development of the printer capabilities and a more widespread role with customer liaison, helpdesk and managerial elements, with to some degree an input in future decisions on the direction of the print hardware side of the business.”

Rennicks products also differ slightly to those Phil has worked with before, posing an exciting new challenge. “The traffic signage industry was slightly different from my previous role so that in itself I found interesting, but there was also a desire to improve the print hardware and support side of the business, and that was appealing with the potential for success in achieving targets and goals.”

A friendly and welcoming team

We pride ourselves on having created a friendly and supportive work environment – and this didn’t go unnoticed during the recruitment process. Another key factor that influenced Phil’s decision to come on board was the family feel we’ve cultivated here at Rennicks. “From my interviews I found everyone to be very friendly and welcoming, so I was looking forward to joining the team. Since starting, that has not changed and everyone has been very helpful and made it easy for me to adapt to my new role.”

An incredible team is one of the greatest assets a business can have, and this represents yet another exciting step forward for Rennicks. We’re sure you’ll join us in warmly welcoming Phil to our growing team!
